I-4 Green Tech Corridor

  • News:

The Tampa City Council amended  their Comprehensive Plan in August 2010 to incorporate an Economic Development Overlay referred to as the Tampa Green Tech Corridor. This action followed an extensive and comprehensive study conducted by The Planning Commission and Hillsborough County/City of Tampa/City of Plant City/City of Temple Terrace. The I-4 Corridor Study identified areas within the City of Tampa where the economic development overlay would be appropriate. With the assistance and support of City of Tampa staff, Planning Commission staff prepared an amendment to the Tampa Comprehensive Plan, consisting of text and map changes reflecting the recommendation of the I-4 Corridor Study. The purpose of the amendment is to help diversify and expand the employment base in the area around the University of South Florida (USF) to encourage the development of target industries (e.g. bio-science, technical services, finance, and management). The Tampa Green Tech Corridor amendment will play a large role in the support of research and development activity currently in place at USF and USF Connect - Tampa Bay Technology Incubator Program.
