City of Tampa

The Cities Group does long-range planning for the City of Tampa in accordance with State legislated mandates.

More specifically, the group works with the local government to develop a long-range comprehensive plan to guide Tampa's future. The group also studies and recommends updates to that plan and requests to amend that plan initiated by private individuals or government.

One way in which that long-range plan is implemented is through the incremental change to land uses over time through such processes as the rezoning process and administration of land development regulations. The group makes consistency findings with the local government comprehensive plan. In this example, is the rezoning application consistent with the purpose, intent and goals objectives and policies of the long-range plan? Are the proposed changes to the land development regulations (e.g. zoning code, tree and landscape code) consistent with the purpose of the long-range plan?

Planners work with the municipality to develop and recommend updates to Tampa's Comprehensive Plan. Amendments to the plan are processed by the planners and carried through the entire public hearing process.
