Promotions within the Planning Commission
The Planning Commission recently announced two senior level changes as part of the Planning Commission’s staff reorganization.
Melissa Zornitta has been promoted to Group Leader of the County Planning Group. Hunter stated that she brings to the position substantial experience in working with the long-range planning issues concerning unincorporated Hillsborough County and practical application to today’s changing environment. Mrs. Zornitta has a Bachelor’s Degree in Government from the College of William and Mary and a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning from Florida State University. She has worked at the Planning Commission for eight years. She also has prior experience in Charlotte County and the City of St. Petersburg and was a White House intern. With her knowledge and skills, Hunter sees a continued positive working relationship with not only the county administration, but also the Board of County Commissioners and the citizens of Hillsborough County.
Steve Griffin has taken on the Group Leader responsibilities for the Cities Planning Group. He was previously Team Leader of the Countywide Planning Team. Mr. Griffin has a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Maryland and has worked at the Planning Commission for 19 years. Hunter stated that he was quite confident that with Mr. Griffin’s substantial experience and knowledge of our community, he would do an excellent job in his new post serving the cities of Tampa, Temple Terrace and Plant City.
Hunter also reflected that he was pleased that both of these individuals are members of the American Institute of Certified Planners and bring to the organization the professionalism, experience and knowledge to continue to do independent quality planning for our community and citizens.
