Plant City Appoints Gary D. Sears to Planning Commission
Sears comes to the Planning Commission with 14 years experience on the Plant City Planning Board.
The City of Plant City has appointed retired Bell Chevrolet Vice-President/General Manager and business consultant Gary D. Sears to serve a four year term on the Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission.
Sears currently sits on the City of Plant City Planning and Zoning Board where he has served for the past 14 years; six of those as Chair. In 2008, Sears was appointed to the ten-member American Planning Association Planning Officials Committee which advocates for and helps educate planning officials nationwide.
Sears has served on many local boards and committees, including the Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce, Plant City Rotary Club, and Plant City Election Board. Prior to becoming a resident of Plant City, Sears served on the City of Oswego (New York) Planning Commission and was appointed by the Governor of New York to serve on the St. Lawrence Eastern Ontario Lakes Commission.
Sears said, “I am honored to represent our City of Plant City on the Planning Commission. I believe I can be a tremendous asset.”
Planning Commission Executive Director Robert B. Hunter, FAICP said, “With Mr. Sears background on various planning commissions nationwide, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the Commission. We look forward to working with him on topics such as transit oriented development, infill development, and sustainability.”
Sears replaces longtime Planning Commissioner Jacqueline R. Wilson who has served on the Planning Commission since 1997.
