What is the Planning Commission?

We are glad you asked!

The Planning Commission is an independent, consolidated planning agency, led by 10 citizen appointees from all 4 local jurisdictions:

•    Plant City (1 representative)
•    Temple Terrace (1 representative)
•    Tampa (4 representatives)
•    Unincorporated Hillsborough County (4 representatives)

These citizen representatives are unpaid volunteers from the various communities in Hillsborough County.  They receive no compensation for their work and serve a four-year term.  Each commissioner is administered an oath of office and follows a code of ethics.

The Planning Commission promotes and coordinates comprehensive long-range planning, growth-management, transportation, and environmental protection.

The Planning Commission makes recommendations to the local jurisdictions regarding land use, neighborhood planning, capital improvements, urban design and other comprehensive plan issues.
