What is the history of the Planning Commission?
The Planning Commission was originally created in 1959.
The Planning Commission was originally created in 1959 by an act of the Florida legislature. Since that time, numerous legislative acts have reaffirmed the Planning Commission as the locally, designated planning agency responsible for Hillsborough County and the cities therein. As the local planning agency, the Planning Commission makes recommendations to the local governments on whether amendments to the comprehensive plan are consistent or inconsistent with the goals of the plan.
More information on the comprehensive planning process can be found at theFlorida Department of Community Affairs website.
