Gibsonton Community Plan
The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved adoption of the SouthShore Areawide Systems Plan in 2003. The Areawide Systems Plan called for the development of six community plans within the SouthShore area. The Gibsonton Community Plan was identified as one of those plans and is intended to implement the proposed Areawide Plan's systems concepts locally as well as a detailed and specific vision and strategies for the Gibsonton area. The Planning Team comprised of the Planning Commission, Planning & Growth Management Department and the Office of Neighborhood Relations, worked with Gibsonton residents, civic leaders and business owners in assessing current characteristics, future aspirations and ways of addressing change.
Project Information
The Planning Team began work with stakeholders of the greater Gibsonton area in September 2004. Through their active participation, a Community Plan was developed to reflect the community’s values, provide guidelines for local development and address quality of life issues in the foreseeable future of the greater Gibsonton area.
Advisory Committee Workshops occured once every few weeks. Opportunities were available throughout the process for the general public to review and comment on the work products that were produced with the committee’s help.
Phase 1 of the process included a SPOT analysis assessing community strengths, problems, opportunities and threats, photography and mapping exercises detailing assets and liabilities which led to development of emerging patterns, themes and values. Phase 2 included the development of a vision for the future, potential goals, strategies and policies.
