Apollo Beach Community Plan
Apollo Beach is located in southern Hillsborough County along the coast of Tampa Bay Presently, it is a small community of about 4,000 residents. Initial development of the community began in the 1970s and involved the creation of a canal network that gives the community much of its character today. Assets include significant ELAPP lands and a small beach at Apollo Beach Park.
The planning efforts for Apollo Beach fall within the framework of the SouthShore Areawide Systems Plan. This plan was adopted by the BOCC in 2003. The Areawide Systems Plan calls for the development of six community plans within the SouthShore area. The Apollo Beach Plan was identified as one of those plans. The Plan is intended to implement the Areawide Systems Plan's concepts locally as well as to provide a detailed and specific vision and strategies for the Apollo Beach area. Through the continued active participation of citizens with the support of county staff, the Apollo Beach Community Plan was developed to reflect the community values, provide guidelines for local development and address quality of life issues pertinent to the future of the Apollo Beach area.
Plan Status
The citizens of Apollo Beach have completed the planning process and have finalized the Community Plan.
Entitled CPA:
Effective Date: May 26, 2005.
The Community Plan sought the preparation of special regulations to address the quality of development along US Highway 41 (US-41). Work began on this project in 2010.
