Derek L. Doughty Appointed to Planning Commission

The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners has appointed civil engineer Derek L. Doughty to serve the remainder of Deven W. Carty’s term on the Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission. The appointment is for approximately one year and expires in September 2009.

Doughty, a Senior Project Manager with Brooks & Amaden, Inc, has 23 years of professional experience.  Most of his work is focused on preparing watershed models throughout Florida and Puerto Rico.  Doughty served as the Project Manager and Lead Technical Engineer for the preparation of the Hillsborough River Watershed Management Plan for Hillsborough County, which won a 2002 Community Design Award for Excellence from the Planning Commission. 

Doughty has served on many local boards and committees, including the Environmental Protection Commission’s Technical Advisory Committee and the SWFWMD Surface Water Advisory Group.

Doughty holds a Master of Engineering from the University of South Florida and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Planning Commission Executive Director Robert B. Hunter, FAICP said, “With his background, Mr. Doughty brings a wealth of information to the Commission.  We look forward to working with him on creative land development recommendations to improve infill in the cities and county.”

Derek Doughty’s first Planning Commission meeting will be October 13.
