Plan Amendments

Citizens, property owners, the Planning Commission, City Council or County Commission and other public agencies may request plan amendments. The staff reviews, processes, and provides recommendations on amendments to the Comprehensive Plans.

Changes to any Comprehensive Plan are either map amendments or text amendments; the most common type is referred to as a “regular “amendment. State law restricts each jurisdiction from amending its comprehensive plan for most types of changes to twice per calendar year.

Plan amendments are sought for many reasons - some reflect a need to change future use that can be considered for a parcel of land while others change the policy or regulatory provisions in the text of the comprehensive plan. The process for amending the comprehensive plan is outlined in the plan amendment procedures manual for each jurisdiction.
