Temple Terrace

by Jay Collins last modified 2007-08-06 09:54

Some of the current projects on which Temple Terrace Planning Team is currently working include:

Temple Terrace Comprehensive Plan:  Updating the long-range plan that guides growth and development in Temple Terrace is a complex and involved undertaking.  The entire update process will take approximately 5 years to complete (2003-2008), and the plan will be for the next 20 years.  There are two steps to updating the comprehensive plan.  The first is a thorough evaluation and appraisal of the existing plan.  An Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR) is then prepared and submitted to the State.  Once the State finds that report sufficient, staff will work on policy analysis and development to implement the recommendations from the evaluation and appraisal report.  Staff recently completed that report and is in the process of taking it through the public hearing process.  That report may be found on our website.

There are five themes guiding Temple Terrace’s comprehensive plan update – sustainability, regeneration, interconnectedness, timeless assets and people.  These themes were identified through a public involvement process as being important to the people of Temple Terrace.  By focusing the plan update (including the state requirements for the update) into these themes, it is expected the result will be a long-range plan that will be more meaningful for the people of Terrace.

Temple Terrace Comprehensive Plan Amendments: Temple Terrace has two plan amendment cycles each year.  One starts April 15th and the other starts October 15th.  Some of the plan amendments in the pipeline include: i) state-mandated creation of a new comprehensive plan element entitled, “Public School Facilities Element”; ii) a text amendment to the Future Land Use Element to create a new plan category called “Urban Mixed Use-25”; and iii) an annexation future land use map amendment located at the southeast corner of Fletcher Avenue and 56th Street from County Urban Mixed Use-12 to Temple Terrace Urban Mixed Use 25.

Land Development Reviews:  Staff reviews rezoning and special use petitions, land development regulation amendments petitions, subdivision plats, right-of-way vacations, annexations, school sitings and developments of regional impact (and notices of proposed changes) for consistency with the Temple Terrace Comprehensive Plan.  Staff has recently reviewed some new annexations, and code amendments related to the downtown redevelopment project.

Plan Information:  Staff counsels the public on a variety of planning related topics.  In fiscal year 2006 (October 1, 2005 through September 30, 2006), staff counseled over 550 people on Temple Terrace related planning matters.
