The Automation Group works closely with all the other Planning Commission groups to develop planning tools, create and analyze GIS and other types of planning data, innovate online resources (i.e. websites, Internet mapping, interactive 3D visualization) for public participation in the planning process, and other related technology projects.

The Automation Group members collectively have decades of experience working on comprehensive planning projects, including future land use, environmental, transportation, community, and neighborhood planning. A few of the major types of projects include:

  • Future Land Use creation and analysis using GIS
  • Future Scenario Analysis/ build-out analysis
  • Multi-jurisdictional data: Schools, Parks, Demographics, etc.
  • Environmental Analysis and modeling of future trends
  • Online, Internet-based GIS mapping for Citizens
  • Online, Interactive 3D planning visualization system

The Planning Commission's Automation Group uses its collective computer skills and knowledge in advanced networking, computer hardware, software programming, multi-jurisdictional GIS databases, and multimedia resources (photos, digital video, 3D models, sound) to create a unique and highly integrated planning tool. These resources are intended to help the planners, decision makers, and citizens of Hillsborough County, City of Tampa, City of Plant City, and City of Temple Terrace better visualize the complex patterns of our community's past , present, and future.
